Formatted mail, images and buttons

How HTML is displayed and why an image may fail while a button still works.

Formatted message display

When a message includes valid HTML, the reader displays its sanitized formatting: headings, images, tables, links and buttons. A plain-text-only email has no original design to reconstruct. Active elements are restricted, so an email reader does not run every kind of web page.

How images are loaded

Remote images use a protected loading path instead of being requested directly by your device. Embedded images are resolved from their attachments when present. This reduces exposure of your device’s connection, but it does not make tracking or links completely harmless; a unique image URL may still identify a particular message.

Check a broken image

  • If only one image fails, its link may have expired or the source server may reject it.
  • If images fail across several messages, note the time and affected messages without publishing private links or verification tokens.
  • If tags such as <p> appear as text, try the original view; the sender’s content may contain HTML encoded as text.
  • Inspect link destinations, particularly for sign-in and payment buttons. A button’s appearance does not authenticate its sender.
